US-based Trimble To Set Up Technology Lab at IIT-Madras

The lab will benefit the Department of Civil Engineering students, who will be able to experience a broad range of Trimble solutions

Building Information Modeling (BIM) software creator Trimble Inc will establish a technology lab at the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-Madras) to serve the architecture, engineering and construction students.

The lab will expand the leadership of IIT Madras in training and research in 3D building design, digital fabrication and sustainable built environment.

IIT Madras would be able to integrate Trimble’s solutions across its curricula that are rapidly transforming how building and living environments are designed and constructed, a company press release said.

Lab to benefit Civil Engineering students

Students of the Department of Civil Engineering students will be able to experience Trimble solutions. Applications of these solutions range from scanning of historic buildings for preservation, design and 3D printing of architectural building models, digital fabrication of custom-lab equipment to monitor coastal erosion and construction cost estimation and scheduling to improve productivity and reduce costs.

The lab will also include a broad range of Trimble’s industry-leading software solutions such as RealWorks scanning software, Trimble Business Center, Vico Office Suite, GCEstimator Suite, Tekla Structures, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, Sefaira Architecture and its popular 3D modeling software and SketchUp Pro.
