These universities Offer Free, Online AI Courses for All

Learn and guide your students

Artifical Intelligence (AI) allows your machines to take the decisions on their own. No wonder the technology is creating magic in almost every field. In order to master AI, it is always beneficial to have on-hand experience on this emerging technology. Let us introduce you to several courses on AI offered by universities across the world. These are available for free for all AI enthusiasts to learn.

University of Helsinki – Elements of AI

With an aim to make Finland a forerunner in AI, University of Helsinki has launched a completely free and open course on Artificial Intelligence. It is kind of a beginner’s course which includes topics like AI introduction, solving problems with AI, real-world AI, Machine learning, Neural Networks and its implications. The course instructor is Teemu Roos, associate professor and it is designed in such a way that no pre-existing knowledge beyond basic maths is required.

Students in Finland can even earn academic credits through Open University. However, the people outside will have no such opportunity but will have an option to receive a certificate that can be posted on the Linkedin page. An e-certificate (PDF) will be issued in the end to everyone who completes the course.

MIT – Artificial Intelligence

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers a course in Artificial Intelligence under its Open courseware programme. The course introduces the learner to the basic knowledge representation, problem-solving and learning methods of artificial intelligence. From the course, one will be able to develop intelligent systems by assembling solutions to concrete computational network, understand the role of knowledge representation, problem-solving and learning in intelligent-system engineering and appreciate the role of problem-solving, vision and language in understanding human intelligence from a computational perspective. The lead instructor of the course is Patrick Winston, ford professor of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science.

Columbia University – Artificial Intelligence

The course instructor is professor Ansaf Salleb-Aouissi from Department of Computer Science, Columbia University. It aims to provide the broad understanding of the basic techniques for building intelligent computer systems and understanding of how AI is applied to problems. The course will include an introduction to Artificial Intelligence, AI history, building intelligent agents (search, games, logic, etc), machine learning algorithms, application of AI (natural language processing, robotics/vision) and solving real AI problems through programming with Python.

The full course is available online on edx platform where you can access it for free. For acquiring a certificate from Columbia University, an amount of $199 USD must be paid.

University of California – Machine Learning Fundamentals

Machine learning is an application of Artificial Intelligence. This course offers a variety of supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms and theory behind those algorithms. It includes real-world case studies to learn how to classify images, identity salient topics in a corpus of documents, partition people according to personality profiles and automatically capture the semantic structure of words and use it to categorize documents. All programming examples and assignments are in Python, using Jupyter notebooks.

The instructor is Sanjoy Dasgupta, professor of Computer Science and Engineering, University of California and all the course material is available for free on edx. To get a certificate from the University of California, an amount of $350 has to be paid.

Georgia Institute of Technology – Machine Learning

The course is delivered by Charles Isbell, executive associate dean and professor, Georgia Institute of Technology. The course presents algorithms and approaches for various topics including statistical supervised and unsupervised learning methods, randomized search algorithms, Bayesian learning methods and reinforcement learning. It also covers theoretical concepts such as inductive bias, the PAC and mistake-bound learning frameworks. Full study material is available on edx for free but for certification, an amount of $99 has to be paid.

With all these courses available free that can be assessed from anywhere, learning a new technology has now become a little easier. Now we do not have to worry much about not having resources for learning something new.
