According to a report by PTI, Sterlite Technologies Ltd has said in a filing in BSE that it has into a pact with Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) for research and advancements in 5G communications technology in the country. The filing also said that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IITM for sponsoring a chair professorship in 5G.
The announcement of the first occupant of the Chair Professorship will take place in the first quarter of 2020. The filing also said that through the partnership Sterlite Technologies Ltd and IIT-Madras aim to realise the huge potential of 5G for customers and industry in India and global markets. It also said that the Chair Occupant will work towards accelerating the advancements in 5G by using IIT Madras’ reasearch and doamin knowledge with Sterlite’s industry expertise in 5G and end-to-end network connectivity.
Talent in 5G domain
As per the report, David Koilpillai, head, department of electrical engineering, IIT Madras said that the initiative will play an important role in enhancing and developing young talent in the 5G domain. He also said that the collaboration cane be a cornerstone in making industrial relevance more prominent in academic research.
