PhD to Soon be a Must for University Teachers

PhD will soon be a must degree for teaching at the university level, even for an entry-level assistant professor, according to a draft policy document by University Grant Commission(UGC), India. Currently, the minimum eligibility required for an assistant professor is National Eligibility Test (NET) and a master degree.

Some of the other features of the regulations in the circular include doing away with the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based appraisal, the introduction of a simplified teacher evaluation grading system and addition of an academic/research score for universities to improve research output reported by Hindustan Times.
