NIRF 2019 Ranking Released: IIT Madras Tops in Overall Category

IIT-Madras has also been identified as the number one institution in the first edition of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA).

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has released the 2019 rankings of higher educational institutions across the country.

The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-Madras) was ranked as the top institute in the overall category, followed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in the second position.

IIT-Madras has also been identified as the number one institution in the first edition of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA).

A total of seven IITs made it to the top ten overall category. These include IIT Delhi (Rank No. 3), IIT-Bombay (Rank No. 4), IIT-Kharagpur (Rank No. 5), IIT Kanpur (Rank No. 6), IIT-Roorkee (Rank No. 8), IIT-Guwahati (Rank No. 9).

Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, also found the place in the top ten overall category at 7th and 10th positions respectively.

The NIRF is an initiative launched under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It releases its rankings every year.

Toppers in other categories

Delhi University’s (DU) Miranda House has once again topped the list of colleges across the country, retaining its first position for the third consecutive year. Hindu College followed in the second position, while Chennai’s Presidency College and St.Stephen’s College secured third and fourth position respectively.

In the list of top universities across the country, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, was ranked first and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) secured the second spot.

Meanwhile, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore grabbed the top spot in the management college ranking followed by IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta.

As per the NIRF 2019 Ranking, the top three medical colleges are All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Christian Medical College, Vellore.

New Delhi’s Jamla Hamdard was ranked first in the Pharmacy category, while Panjab University in Chandigarh was ranked second.
