Even after qualifying JEE many women candidates do not join prestigious colleges. Currently,  women candidates make up less than 10 percent of student strength in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To end this gender imbalance IITs are going to add 779 seats only for women from this academic year. This is not a quota as there is no change in the number of existing seats.Admission in these seats will purely be based on merit and women candidates too will have to get All India Rank after qualifying JEE Advanced and JEE Mains.
The reservation policy as per Government of India norms as existing at present will be applicable to these seats as well.
