IIT Madras will conduct research on smart manufacturing and industrial revolution at the joint research cell
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two leading manufacturing firms of Japan – alfaTKG Co. Ltd and OKABE Manufacturing Co. Ltd to set up a joint research cell in the manufacturing segment. The two companies will be holding joint research, sponsorship programmes and facility usage apart from the exchange of employees through the research centre.
Commenting on the partnership, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT-M said that it would help the students in obtaining internships in the two manufacturing units in Japan. The goal is also to interact with start-ups and small, medium enterprises and work on researches related to Industry 4.0. Smart manufacturing has also been included in the research area.
Genius Artificial Intelligence Assistance
alfaTKG will be introducing Genius Artificial Intelligence Assistance (GAIA) for efficient manufacturing, machinery utility and health monitoring in the institute. The IoT-solutions provider to SMEs in the Asian region. According to Toshio Takagi, president and CEO, alfaTKG, Japan, the collaboration with IIT-Madras would help in the SME sector.
The MoU was signed by Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Toshio Takagi, president and CEO, alfaTKG, Japan, and Hiroaki Okabe, president and CEO, OKABE Manufacturing Co., Japan.
The MoU signing event was followed by a special lecture by Toshio Takagi on the Japan GAIAs — AI based IoT Solutions for Manufacturing in SMEs.
