IISc Bangalore Starting MTech Degree in Artificial Intelligence This Year

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, one of the country’s premier education institutions, has launched a new master’s degree in artificial intelligence (AI).

Through their new MTech degree, IISc aims to impart rigorous training in the foundations and deep technology of AI to produce graduates who can become world leaders in AI and lead India’s march towards leadership in technology.

This program will be offered by the Division of EECS through the joint efforts of the Departments of CSA, ECE, EE, and ESE.

In the first year, the institute plans to admit 40 students to the programme and assign an equal number of students to each of the four departments.

The programme will have four semesters and cover topics such as data structures and algorithms, computational linear algebra, pattern recognition and neural networks, game theory, deep learning, practical data science, machine learning with large data sets and natural language understanding.

Who can apply?

Candidates who have a valid GATE score in CS, EC, or EE papers are eligible to apply for the course. They need to go through a written test followed by an interview. Applicants from CS, EC, and EE GATE disciplines will be called for interview based on their GATE scores.

For 2020 admissions, IISc plans to review the programme and consider including other GATE disciplines as well.

It may be noted that top institutes like IIIT Hyderabad and several IITs have already launched various courses in emerging technology, especially AI.
