IIT Hyderabad is already offering an MTech program in Artificial Intelligence – Machine Learning.
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has decided to launch a full-fledged BTech Program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) starting the 2019-2020 academic year.
With this move, IIT Hyderabad is set to become the first Indian educational institution to offer a full-fledged BTech program in AI and likely the third institute globally. Currently, only Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), both in the US, offer such course, Hindustan Times reported.
Initially, the institute will offer 20 seats for the course, which students can take through the JEE-Advanced.
Mention may be made here that IIT Hyderabad is already offering an MTech program in Artificial Intelligence – Machine Learning.
Importance of BTech program in AI
Prof UB Desai, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said that the basic aim of introducing this course is to create a complete ecosystem for Artificial Intelligence Academics and Research, which involves BTech, MTech and different minor programs in AI, at IIT Hyderabad.
Moreover, the R&D will be strongly entwined with academics, he informed.
With this new course, the Department of Artificial Intelligence of IIT Hyderabad, aims to produce students with a sound understanding of the fundamentals of theory and practice of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
It also wants to help students in becoming leaders in the industry and academia nationally and internationally to meet the pressing demands in the areas of AI and Machine Learning.
