In order to solve the problems related to public bus transport system, the students of DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute have created a smart bus system that can enable the passengers to access real-time location of the bus, availability of vacant seats, etc.
“The final year students from the electronics engineering department of DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, located in Ichalkaranji city of Maharashtra, have developed a smart bus system, using IoT, the college said in a press statement.
The students of DKTE have always come up with the ideas of projects that are helpful for environment as well as society and the given project was part of it, the statement said.
Solving transport related issues
There are several issues related to the public bus transport system, like overcrowded buses, irregular time schedules, cancellation of buses, issues in the payment system and no real-time access to bus location. Considering these issues, the college students – Tanmay Joshi, Pranav Kavthekar, Rohini Chavan and Pooja Patil, under the guidance of professor V B Kumbhar, have decided to build project named – smart bus system using IoT.
With the help of this project, passengers are able to access the real-time location of a bus on the map, display of upcoming bus stop and availability of vacant seats inside the bus and the expected time of arrival with the help of a mobile application.
In addition, in the smart bus system, traditional ticketing system is swapped by radio-frequency identification (RFID) card system, that doesn’t need paper usage. It is a green initiative to help in environment conservation.
